Popping in to share what I’ve been into lately!
Reading
I’ve finished The Rosie Project, Eleanor & Park, and Looking for Alaska. I enjoyed them all, but I wish youth lit, in particular, didn’t have so much sexual overtone. What is up with that??
I also read Notes from a Blue Bike: The Art of Living Intentionally in a Chaotic World. I love Tsh at the Art of Simple, but I felt like this book needed a better editor to help tighten it up. Also, I thought her references to expats came across as a bit elitist, but maybe that’s just because I’ve never lived abroad with my crew. 🙂
I’ve been thinking nonstop about this article claiming biological proof that home is more stressful than the office. Working parents know they can switch projects or try to get on a different team…or even look for something new. But those aren’t exactly strategies we can apply to home life. We can’t trade away our stressors at home. That’s why they say many working women feel relief when they go to work. As a SAHM (well, technically a WAHM), I found this comforting. My frequent cortisol spikes are normal!

Colbie Caillat’s Try video. Have you seen it? A great message about focusing on who you want to be. (Authenticity!)

A strong finish to the “greatest summer ever!” #18summers
I’ll see you back here soon to talk about more wholehearted living—how to move through shame! (I don’t know that anyone has ever put shame next to an upbeat exclamation mark before, but that just happened!)

Glad to hear you enjoyed the Rosie project as it’s on my fall reading list. Rainbow Rowell (Eleanor & Park) has a new book out this month that’s a fun read FYI. I still need to get around to reading The Giver. (I also read and loved The Winter Sea this month which I think I heard about from you?)
Erica Layne
Yes! I LOVE The Winter Sea and have read most everything else she writes too. 🙂 None of them are as well crafted as The Winter Sea, but they’re all fun. And yes, the Giver is a must. I think it kind of kicked off the utopian-gone-wrong writing that is big these days.
I just started Attachments, by Rowell – I will have to look up her newest book. Thanks for the fyi! 🙂

I always love these posts! I’ve been thinking a lot about the challenges and exhaustion of being a full time SAHM and I love the article you included. It really shed light on some things I have felt, but never had been able to put into words without wondering if my feelings were actually valid. This really helped 🙂

I’m looking forward to “The Giver” as well. One of my favorite books!

Picking peaches looks delightful! Always love picking and canning them (and eating them in the process)!

This is such a great post – I really liked reading it! And the pics were beautiful 🙂

I read Notes from a Blue Bike too. It was a bit rambly but overall inspired me to travel more! 😉 Your blog is simply beautiful, by the way!

Thanks for the recommendations! I’ve had The Rosie Project on my reading list for a while now. I’m hoping to get around to it after I finish all the books on my summer reading list. Eeek the pressure is on! I’m currently reading The Fault in Our Stars and Jason Priestley: a memoir. Both are excellent reads! The trailer for The Giver looks amazing.
Thanks for sharing!

So many things to say! I want to read Eleanor & Park! I wish I had more time to read. Someday. Is #18summers really almost over? I want summer to stay forever! And I want to see The Giver too…I should read that book again. Your family is gorgeous and I love the produce pictures. That’s all.

Rach – You’re back!! (Obviously.) I’ve missed hearing from you on here and insta and by text and…point is, I’m just happy you’re back!
Btw, I just finished a book by the author of E&P that I possibly liked even better. (Less teenage romance. 🙂 It’s called Attachments. I think it would be so great made into a rom com.
