Every year the Nester talks at the beginning of summer about how we only have 18 summers with each child. Maybe because this is our first official summer break (now that our oldest has finished kindergarten), the concept really struck me this year. So we set out on our quest to have the best summer ever, and so far, it’s delivering. Some days we get out and explore; other days we relish in the slowness of summer and don’t go anywhere at all.
Our annual road trip to Utah, where both of our parents live, added BIG TIME to the magic of summer.
The kids played with cousins; the adults talked late into the night, piled onto couches. We relaxed in jacuzzis, partied at water parks, and even swam in a deep geothermal spring. (The Midway Cater, for any Utah locals.) We stroked some horses, went on a hay ride, ate too much good food, caught ridiculous amounts of candy at the city parade, and imagined what it would be like to have a bonafide backyard. (My parents’ yard is beautiful!)
As for our 18 summers, we’re down to 12 summers with Trenton, 14 summers with Chase, and 17 with Quinn. And that includes this summer, so we better keep making it count!
