A great bucket list needs a little of everything. This is the formula I ran with for ours:
Something wild. Something ridiculous. Something attainable. Something that feels like a longshot. Something broadening. And something gracious.
A couple of caveats: Initially I planned to share “our” list, but I figured I’d let Ryan keep most of his to himself. No need to succumb the poor guy to the oversharing I like to do here! Also, I need to preface it by saying that the list certainly isn’t complete and that I don’t know the specifics about each item. But life is long; I’ll figure it out. Besides, setting our sights is as much about having something to move toward as it is achieving it. Now on to the list!
Something Wild:
Sing at a karyoke bar. (Terrifying! But it sounds exhilarating too, and it’s good to go out of your comfort zone every now and then, right? Way, way out!)
Something Ridiculous:Smash watermelon with a sledgehammer. (Have you seen that Geico commercial? I usually can barely stand their commercials, but that one makes my fingers itch every time! I could see myself doing this on, say, my 60th birthday. So random and wasteful!)
Something Attainable:Take cooking classes.
Develop this blog and help more people write their life histories.
Participate in an athletic event after each baby.
Something that Feels like a Longshot:Write a book.
Be involved in a restaurant. (Menu, design & styling, who knows?!) Maybe even own it!
Something Broadening:Take our family to Africa.
Take Ryan to London.
Visit Chile (where my husband served a two-year church mission).
Go on a Mediterranean cruise!
Something Gracious:Pay a family a monthly sum to keep their daughter in school. Those programs keep a lot of girls from being sold (usually unintentionally by their parents) into the sex trade. I need to find the right organization first, though!
Contribute to women’s health in Africa.
I hope my list has gotten you thinking about what’s on yours. I’ve been pleasantly surprised at how much lighter I’ve felt ever since I’ve had these on my mind. The world is a brighter place when you have DREAMS to keep you going. (Even if they do feel a bit far off, most of the time.) So tell me, what are a couple of items on your life list? (Don’t make me be the only one to share—That would just be embarrassing!)

Love! I need to dream bigger, I think. Like you, I’ve got publish books, work on blogs…But it would be fun to go wilder! Something I’d like to do though is ride an air balloon – maybe over the Grand Canyon?! Anyway, gotta keep thinking about this. Thanks for sharing part of your list!

That’s awesome, girl! I love those fun ones. I think we all have the more serious ones in the back of our minds, but the crazy ones are what keep the list interesting! A hot air balloon ride would be amazing! (Ryan wants to heliski!)

A hot air balloon, that is. =)

Loved your list! Thanks for sharing. Here’s a thought: Change impossible to I”m possible. (Just went to a RS with a goal setting talk about that!)

What a great list! I need to do something similar. I love the idea of sponsoring an African family to keep a girl out of the sex trade. I had no idea that you can do this. I hope you’ll share the information when you find it. I’d also like to travel to Africa!

This inspires me! I am thinking up some things that I can do in 2013!

I always had “ride an elephant ” on my list of things I always wanted to do. I ended up doing it at an animal park, which wasn’t totally what I had envisioned, but it covers my bases in case I never get to an exotic location for the wilder version.
