A few friends have asked about my reading list for our upcoming trip to Mexico!
Have I mentioned that our good friends invited Ryan to officiate their wedding (Joey Trinbiani style :)—in Acapulco? It was just the nudge we needed to pawn our kids off on our amazing parents and skip town to celebrate our friends’ wedding and our 10-year anniversary. We’ve never done something like this before, and I still can’t believe it’s happening!
So naturally, I’ve been lovingly curating my beach reading list because after the wedding, all I want to do is soak in some pretty views with a good book. 🙂
My Summer Reading List
Fiction
The Hypnotist’s Love Story by Liane Moriarty
I loved Three Wishes, with Big Little Lies as a close second. Liane Moriarty does chick lit in a way that makes you think about life—where our choices lead us and what the people in our lives really mean to us. Love her.
A Desperate Fortune by Susanna Kearsley
Kearsley’s The Winter Sea is my all-time favorite book, so naturally, I’ve read most everything she’s written. None of them have quite lived up, but they’re all so darn engaging—perfect for the beach. Kearsley does historical fiction very well, weaving together past and present, mystery and just enough romance. 🙂
The Distant Hours by Kate Morton
Another well-liked author. Historical fiction.
When I Found You by Catherine Ryan Hyde
I don’t know much about this one, but it looks touching, and it’s well reviewed on amazon!
The Girl You Left Behind by Jojo Moyes
I was so engrossed in Me Before You (a bit heavy but beautiful) that I ordered this one even before I’d finished the first.
My Summer Reading List
Non-Fiction
Love Does by Bob Goff
I cracked this one early, and I LOVE it so far! Probably enough to inspire a future blog post… 🙂
Last Child in the Woods by Richard Louv
Totally smitten with the title.
Love Yourself Like Your Life Depends On It by Kamal Ravikant
From my self-love reading list for 2015. I’m still plugging away!
Understanding Exposure by Bryan Peterson
Because… I heart photography, but I’m really just winging it. 🙂
I have a handful of paperback copies and a handful on kindle / audio. Usually I listen to non-fiction rather than read it, and I love that the audible app lets me drop bookmarks and make notes as I read that I can easily access later.
Have you read any of these, or anything else good lately? You know I love to talk books!

I read “Last Child in the Woods” four or so years ago and I LOVED it. It makes such important arguments for letting kids be kids, spending time outside, and spending unstructured time in nature. You’re going to love it! Also, I read The Winter Sea a few months ago because I remember you saying you loved it and I really enjoyed it! I am going to check out a few of your other recommendations.

Also, I hope you have a blast in Mexico! I want to see pictures of Acapulco. We did our first trip away from the kids in April this year and it was beyond wonderful.

Have fun in Mexico! Sounds awesome.
I enjoyed your Moriarty pick, the Morton wasn’t my favorite of hers, and I’ve not read any others (but I’m adding a couple to my reading list!).
Please let us know how you find these books- especially if you really enjoy them.

I’ve been commanding my sisters in the last few weeks to read “Me Before You”, especially now that they’re MAKING A MOVIE. I’ve been on a big Jojo binge lately, try One Plus One; it’s cute.

Love this list! I just ordered several of these titles for pick up from our library and can’t wait to read them. I have no doubt they will make our trek to Memphis fly by! Thanks, friend!

This is such an amazing list! Thanks for sharing. I flew through Me Before You in less than 24 hours last weekend and now I want to read all her other titles. The Girl You Left Behind sounds soooo good.
