Oh yes! Our boys LIVE for Halloween, so our decorations are up and our first visit to a coast-side pumpkin patch crossed off our fall fun list! #overachievers #onlysometimes
At 18 months, Girl is a HANDFUL. But so much fun, most of the time. 🙂
The boys each recently had a speaking line in front of our whole church congregation (nailed it!), and Quinn had her first day of church nursery! Luckily, she liked the nursery much better than she liked sitting on Trenton’s lap for a picture. 🙂
We’ve been squeezing in more family adventure before the weather cools off—hiking Mt. Davison (that tree the boys are climbing has it’s own hashtag! #thatsftree) and chasing baby crabs in Half Moon Bay.
Now on to my list of what I’ve been into lately!
Doing
A whole lotta first-grade homework! Trenton’s homework takes at least 45 minutes a night, which is pretty interesting with two other littles underfoot. Rumor has it that the teacher is going to be easing up on the homework starting next week, because of parent feedback. (Please let this happen!)
Reading
Carry On, Warrior by Glennon of Momastery. I love that Glennon narrates the audio version. Definitely a great pick-me-up, with plenty of humor and insight sprinkled throughout.
The Anatomy of Peace by the Arbinger Institute. This has awesome reviews, and I can see why. I’m about halfway through the audio book, and I have gained some treasures. (collusion vs. conflict & having a heart of peace toward others)
How Children Succeed: Grit, Curiosity, and the Hidden Power of Character by Paul Tough. That title. Whoa. The book, however, was so grounded in case study (I guess you’d call it) that it was a little hard to get through. For some readers, that could be a plus, though!
When You Reach Me. Huge fan right here!
Pinning
The perfect fall outfit.
A gallery wall of WORDS. Oh my.
A darn happy family photo shoot. Families that bike together stay together!

The thing that sat funny with me about the Fault in the Stars and other YA lit I’ve read lately. So glad this writer put a finger on it for me.
One of the best pieces I’ve read online all year. Bonus, it’s not that long. “Brave people are just people who trust themselves more than they trust the crowd.”

Wholehearted Living: Sometimes People Will Hurt You. Because even though mean people stink, I’m actually allllmost glad that happened.
42 Ways to Make Your Kids Feel ABSOLUTELY Loved. Not a guilt list but a YOU GOT THIS list.
I’d love to hear if you’ve read any of these books or how you’re feeling about your kids’ homework load! What have you been into lately?
I hope you all have a great weekend! Thank you so much for being here!

45 minutes of homework in 1st grade – oh my goodness! I hope the teacher lightens the load because that is a lot for a little guy, and for you too, mama!
I absolutely love that fall outfit. Fall is my favorite season and the cozy clothes make it even more fun!
Peace is my One Word for this year so Anatomy of Peace definitely piqued my interest!
Always love these posts. This is another great one 🙂

I’m a summer girl through and through (slower pace, long days, warm evenings), but fall clothes are unbeatable!
Hope you guys get to get outdoors and enjoy the weekend together!

Oh if you like Anatomy of Peace you need to read Leadership & Self-Deception, also by the Arbinger Institute. Another good one that is the same style is Peacegiver.
Erica Layne
Yes! That one is definitely on my list! Have you read both? Thoughts?
Sierra Burton
Yes I have! My thoughts on them is that I wish the Arbinger Institute would write more books. They are great! I love how they use real life situations to teach us principles. We get to see the principles in action!

I have a second grader and a kindergartener – and they both have homework daily… Doing homework while wrangling two younger brothers is a sure-fire way to send me to the funny farm really quickly… I am exhausted – mentally drained when they are done. I hope you get a break on the homework front!!! – at least for now!

Umm…you kind of ruined me with that link/article about characters in young adult fiction…so true! Its all I think about now as I read my YA books! 🙂 But so true and a good point.
Also, I love Anatomy of Peace. I love the Arbringer Institute and their whole system. I also love Bonds That Make Us Free. Along the same lines, and another good one!
P.S. This comment was really difficult to post with a squirmy 6-month-old lunging for the keyboard! 🙂 XO!

When did you read Anatomy of Peace? How did I not even know about the Arbinger Institute?? So many questions! 🙂
Sorry I semi-ruined YA lit for you! I agree – that article was spot on! (But sometimes ignorance is bliss. haha)
