Hi y’all!
Have you see that Buzzfeed post about parents at the beginning of the year versus parents at the end of the year? That is totally me right now. But summer is coming!
It’s nice and warm here in our little oasis at the end of the Bay. Life hums along as my husband and I take care of the kiddos, volunteer at church, pursue our careers/interests, and work on our side venture, Trread. (Which, by the way, is going well and keeps us up too late many nights!)
As promised, I’ve got a mini-review of Donald Miller’s Scary Close for you! I love the subtitle: Dropping the Act and Finding True Intimacy.
The best way I can think of to describe this book is that it is real-life application of Brené Brown’s writing on vulnerability. The writer doesn’t describe it this way, but I couldn’t help but make those connections while I was reading (technically, listening to) this book.
It’s the kind of book you can read at ease, whenever you feel like it and whenever you need a mood boost. It’s a nudge to open yourself up in order to deepen your connection with the people you’re close to.
And because you know I’m a quote collector (and I know many of you are too!), here are a few of the gems I highlighted in Scary Close:
“We don’t think of our flaws as the glue that binds us to the people we love, but they are.”
“It’s as though their family was a refuge—a place where everybody could be themselves with no fear of being judged.”
And the last one? After describing a tough guy who, as it turns out, sleeps with a teddy bear at night, Miller says,
“Sometimes the story we’re telling the world isn’t nearly as endearing as the one that lives inside of us.”
I love that. I hope we have the courage, day in and day out, to share the stories that really live inside of us.
PS. These photos are from a recent trip to a favorite taco truck. You can read the real story—the backstory—here. Let’s just say the kids and I got “scary close” in the backseat of a Corolla. 🙂
PPS. For more reading ideas, check out my self-love reading list for 2015. Thanks so much for being here, and you have a fantastic weekend!!

Can you tell us more about this? I’d like
to find out some additional information.
