It’s been too long since we talked design around here! On a whim last weekend my boys and I visited an estate sale in an upscale nearby community, Hillsborough, California. The items for sale were interesting—huge old trunks, scores of vintage lace, more than a dozen authentic cow hides—but what blew me away was the actual estate! Parts of it had been clearly remodeled, like the kitchen you’ll see below, but other parts had barely been touched and were just as breathtaking. Hexagon penny tile from 1917?? Roped off spiraling staircases? A whole wing for “the boys”? If you look closely you can even see a half buried alligator near the pool! I can imagine those boys, decades ago, living out their Peter Pan fantasies in their own backyard!
I never actually want a home that is nearly this grand, but walking it in booties with my bouncing little boys was a pretty fantastic way to spend an hour. We will definitely be doing some more estate sale hopping in this particular community!
By the way, the pricetag on this estate? 4.5M!

That hexagon room is amazing! I’ve never been to an estate sale, but I’ve always wanted to go. Especially if you can find cowhides there.

I CANNOT ever imagine buying a 4.5 million dollar house! That is insane! But fun to see all the character there. Looks beautiful.
