While we were in Utah, Ryan and I spent one blessed night at the St. Regis in Deer Valley. (The big advantage of having a traveling husband is hotel points!) You know I am a sucker for beautiful design, so I was looking forward to scoping out the design almost as much as I was looking forward to being without kiddos. 🙂
The hotel’s design mirrors its moutainous surroundings with a lot of rich earth tones and exposed wood, but it didn’t feel overly manly or “western,” which I really appreciated. The whole place is a study in combining masculine and feminine design. Check out that black velvet chair in our room; I could have sat there all day! It is the perfect feminine corner, set next to the slightly more masculine bedframe and bedside table.
Also, although this feature is tiny, I really liked the reading lamps on each side of the bed, which they had in addition to regular table lamps. The reading lamps are pretty, but also retractable, so they can be tucked out of sight. Ryan and I could benefit from those at home!
Textured carpet, grasscloth walls, thick crown molding, baby soft bedding, linen curtains . . . I was impressed. I was continually mumbling to myself that I had better not get used to it, because I will only be staying somewhere like this as long as the hotel points keep coming—and that likely won’t be forever!
Though the following pics are not design related, here is a taste of the fun we had! Best part? They somehow thought it was our honeymoon (almost seven years late!), so we got some VIP treatment, including those fantastic chocolate-dipped strawberries!
Now it’s back to reality. I’m off to scrub a toilet!

Yes, you DO look like ‘honeymooners’! I’m glad you appreciate beauty and also stay practical. Happy for your visit!

How much fun! It looks like you had a great time! And your pictures are so good! How do you take such beautiful pictures? We are in the market for a “fancy camera” as I like to call it. Maybe I can take pretty pictures like that when I get a new camera. 🙂

Thanks, Brenda! I have a Canon Powershoot S95 that takes fantastic pictures, and I also have a Nikon D40 that is a few years old. I take pictures for the blog using both. These ones happen to be with the Nikon. Photoshop also helps me out. 🙂
Good luck in your camera hunt! Photography is such a fun hobby! And I have a feeling you’ll get even more into it with the arrival of your baby girl!

Delightful getaway! I’m fascinated by the throw pillows. I’ve never seen them deliberately indented like that, have you? Simple, yet an elegant twist. I just redecorated my family room over the weekend so I have design on the brain!
Erica {let why lead}
Yes! I’ve been seeing pillows like that on the “real” design blogs I read, so I’ve been giving my own throw pillows a little karate chop too. 🙂 Wish I could see your family room!! I bet it looks great!

You’ve got me excited for my away-from-kids-cation next week! Outside that hotel looks FABULOUS!

What a great place! How nice to be able to get away…and those strawberries look delish!
