I’ve been thinking lately about what motherhood looks like, here in my home and over at yours. I think it was writing my “we’re just moms” post that got me going. 🙂
Motherhood over here probably looks a lot like it does over there.
Messes, naps, toys, dishes, snuggles, smiles. It’s profoundly normal.
Our family lives in a two-bedroom, minimally updated, 1970s condo that we don’t own. The baby sleeps in our bedroom during the day, and I wheel her into the attached bathroom at night. The boys run laps—and I mean hundreds of laps—around our dining table and across our small living room every, single day. Our patio is just big enough for them to ride perfect little donuts on their bikes when the weather is nice. We eat dinner picnic-style on the patio regularly through the summer. (It saves me from scrubbing the dinner table afterwards.) It’s too hilly to really walk our neighborhood, but we can walk to a neighboring shopping plaza, where practically all the employees know us by name.
It’s a small but beautiful life. I’m so grateful to be living it.

Does yours look about like that?

Hi Erica, I’m new to Let Why Lead and am really enjoying it. I love your honesty and it feels like we have lots in common – including renting a condo with babies underfoot 🙂 You’re doing great both as a writer and as a mom. Thank you for sharing your journey!
Erica {let why lead}
Hi Katie! Thanks so much for your sweet comment! I love to hear who’s out there – and even better, that we’re in the same boat. 🙂 Best wishes with those babies of yours!

Cute movie. Yesterday I watched the same kid spill his milk on the floor three separate times. Makes me glad I didn’t mop yesterday like I should’ve.
I was feeling down on myself so after a big bowl of ice cream, we looked at our sleeping boys before bed and thought of the cute and funny things they do. Its hard not to dwell on the negative sometimes but its easier to remember the good times when they’re asleep!
Erica {let why lead}
YES! There is no better time to be a mother than when kids are asleep. That’s when I love them the most fiercely, in spite of how our day may have gone. 🙂

You aren’t the only one who reflects on the happy times while eating a big bowl of ice cream late at night! Peace and quiet + ice cream = happy mommy. 🙂
Erica {let why lead}
Love that! Except I might switch out the ice cream for chex muddy buddies!

Yep! That about sums it up 😉 Love the video/photos!

I love your encouragement and heart for motherhood and other moms. Thank you, dear friend!

I paused your video on that photo of you and Quinn lying in bed together, looking into each others’ eyes–so beautiful!
Erica {let why lead}
Aw, thanks, Leigh! I already miss her being that little! She has become so chubby! Wish you could see her!
