A few years ago, I bought a petite piano on craigslist, painted it a flat black, recovered the bench, and added some teal Anthro knobs. You may even remember my post about it. As you can see from the pretty pictures below (or from a quick search on pinterest), painted pianos are popping up all over now, but I like to pretend I started the trend. 🙂
Apparently to make me feel like I really did, a sweet reader emailed me a picture of her own painted piano, inspired by my post. I thought today I’d share what a beautiful job she did! Our pianos are almost exactly alike, so it’s fun seeing the cream version. I originally wanted to do mine in cream, but once I started, I got scared and sprinted to Home Depot for black paint. She was braver than I was, and I think it paid off!
Go paint a piano!

Well, you’re braver than me. I chickened out on painting ours altogether. Or maybe I was vetoed by Dan. Or too lazy. Now I can’t even remember which! Way to go ladies!

Haha, thanks for telling me, Liz! I had been wondering if you ever did it with yours!

Painted pieces of furniture are so in right now! I absolutely love Sierra’s bright green dresser that we painted before she was born. Now I wish I could paint something else! (But sadly my little apartment is pretty maxed out on the furniture it can take right now…) Its fun to refresh and restyle something outdated, old, or boring.

Wow, the green piano is beautiful! I want to do this with mine now!

I’ve been strongly debating painting my piano. I bought it at an estate sale. It was badly taken care of meaning it has all kinds of goop and sprinkles on it, water marks, black ring marks, and it’s sticky everywhere. I’ve tried to clean it with everything conceivable and it looks better but it is still yukky. So I plan to paint it. Finding this post has now given me the incentive (and bravery) I needed. I was going to paint it black but now that I see the cream … hmmm

Hi Diane! I’m glad this post gave you some inspiration, and I bet yours will turn out wonderfully! I think the key is a bit of distressing at the end. There’s no sense in trying to pretend it is a brand new shiny piano, so instead we embrace the piano’s history and rough it up a bit! Good luck!
