I can feel my mind swirling, shifting.
“I’m a water guy!”
“And I’m a soda guy! We give everyone yucky soda!”
“Yeah! Get off the couch, Trenton, and I’ll show you my trick.”
“No, I WON’T move! Ah! Stop, Chase!”
“But I need some space! For my trick!”
The elbows come out. I wonder who will get knocked off the couch first.
I also wonder if I’m going to lose my mind, as the swirling picks up speed. If not now—this moment—it seems inevitable. Surely I’ll crack at some point before they’re all grown.
“Hey, you look like a pillow! I’ll sleep on you!”
“No! I’m NOT a pillow! Get off me!”
Whop.
Please excuse me while I go put the little guy in time out.
“Stories Make Life Shine” is a series of brief personal essays in which I get to take a break from playing commentator and try my hand at playing writer. For one entry, I write in present tense and try to capture the scene. The point is to keep it short and not labor over it to the point of losing your love for it. I hope that you’ll be inspired to write your own life vignettes. As always, thank you for reading! -Erica

Oh gosh! As the mother of three sons, I lived that exact moment many, many, many times. How can they have so much fun wrestling around? I remember thinking I couldn’ stand another second of yelling and jumping and running and knocking the tops of doors! Great memories now though. Isn’t is funny how that works?
