1. Keep working a job I don’t like. As some of you know, for the last five and a half years I’ve managed our building of 53 condos. It is a part-time job I can do from home, with my kids, but it wears on me. It also makes a huge difference for us financially, because of the high cost of living in the Bay area, so I’m determined to hold out for as long as I can.
2. Keep living in a home we’ve outgrown. We have five people (two of whom are LOUD and active) in a 2-bedroom, 2-bath condo. There is usually a mountain bike stored in one shower, and at night, the baby occupies the other one. 🙂 It’s a little ridiculous, but we’re making it work. (See #1)
3. Keep visiting distant family instead of saving for the exotic vacation we always dream of. When we first got married, we pictured ourselves saving our money to travel the world. As it turns out, we want our kids to know their cousins. And aunts, uncles, grandparents, and even second cousins, none of whom we live near. So in our eight years of marriage, we’ve never left the country together, but we have given our kids connection. (And the exotic vacation will happen, in time. 🙂
Where the world (and pinterest) might tell me to do less of what I don’t like and more of what I love in order to be happy, this year, I’m pushing back. I’m finding happiness within my circumstances rather than bucking them altogether. I’m listening to logic, not whimsy (most of the time, anyway). It’s going to be a great year.
What are you doing wrong in 2014?Â
And if you have a minute, would you take an 8-question, anonymous survey about Let Why Lead? Especially if you are a regular visitor. I’m always brainstorming how to improve, and no one knows better than you! Thank you!Â

We were thinking of the cruise we want to take *someday.* But alas, right now we have more important ways to spend our money. Maybe in 10 years?

I love the gorgeous pictures you put in your posts. Especially those darling cheeks of Quinn’s!
Props to you for sticking with that management job. You guys are smart. After 2 years managing Brookside, I was so ready to get out of there! I feel your pain. Such an invasive job. But I find myself wishing I could be saving that money and sometimes wouldn’t mind being back!

good for you!!

Thank you so much, Cindy! I do love those little toes. Just wish they wouldn’t keep growing so fast!
Happy 2014 to you, too!

I know it’s hard to stick it out in a job that is lack-luster…but you’re doing a great thing for your family. Pray for the right job/opportunity to open up, and there will be a time it will 🙂 As for the outgrown home; I hear you. We don’t have a mountain bike in the shower, but the elliptical is RIGHT beside our bed. It’s the open place to keep it and in 1 Feirenheit weather, I need something to exercise on! Even though we are all on top of each other, I’d rather that – than be too far apart. There’s a theme in your post….Family first in 2014. xo!

Those toes!!!

One of the things I love about you is that you see the bigger picture. All the “wrongs” have a purpose and you know why they’re important in your life.
