“Real style is never right or wrong. It’s a matter of being yourself on purpose.”
G. Bruce Boyer
It’s been years since the last time I did a “what I wore” post. (Years!) Every time I share one, I feel like I’m dying a little inside… I mean, who really wants to post pictures of yourself head to toe on the internet? It feels too showy for my comfort, but…
The exercise itself is so redeeming that I decided to dust if off and give it another round of life. It is KEY when you want to get out of a style rut, and I needed the nudge.
The pictures aren’t great, but I’m not pretending to be style blogger here. Just a regular mom trying to branch out from yoga pants and tennis shoes. 🙂 A couple of days a week, anyway…
The Outfits
1. Top from JCrew Factory, skirt from a local shop, booties from Nine West.
2. Gray sweater from Loft (similar one here), distressed, straight-leg Joe’s jeans from Nordstrom Rack, and Steve Madden slip-ons that are my absolutely favorite mom shoe. (These or these are similar.) Oh and a side ponytail!
3. Crop top and camo tank from Lululemon Outlet, Joe’s skinny jeans from Nordstrom Rack that have a lot of stretch in them (comfort is king!), and sparkly Steve Madden sandals. I think the sparkle + camo is fun and unexpected.
4. More church! Drapey blouse from the Rack tucked into a plaid pencil skirt from JCrew Factory, plus snake skin heels. Plaid + snakeskin = more fun!
5. Rainy day! Same gray sweater as in #2, this time with a polka-dotted chambray button down from Nordstrom (purchased for family pics two years ago!). Black pants from Uniqlo (a great store for comfy basics!!) and black boots I’ve had for years and still adore.
6. Same blouse as in #1. Half-tucked into the skinnies from #3. Glittery flats from Asos, no longer in stock but I have my eye on these babies.
A few notes
As you may have guessed, my wardrobe philosophy is less is more. I find it so much easier to put together outfits when I have a smaller selection. So I try to only buy and keep what I really love. (Learned that one from my late grandma!)
Maaaybe with spring arriving I will venture into a bit of color!
A word on body image. I have a Jennifer Garner-style baby bump (meaning a bump with no baby) that I’m always trying to downplay and boobs that need all the help they can get, post-babies. But I’m doing my best to absolutely love my “mom bod,” and I hope you are too, no matter your shape or size!
Lastly, at least half the week I wear workout clothes all the livelong day. (Maybe my next WIW post will be “what I wore when I didn’t technically get dressed!”)
“People will stare. Make it worth their while.” Harry Winston

Um can you please just be my personal stylist? I love all your outfits.
Erica Layne
Um yes! Can we do it virtually? 😉 I think YOU have great style, so it can work both ways!
Kendall
These are my favorite posts!! I love your style and I would also love to see what exercise clothes you wear all day. I’m totally guilty of wearing exercise clothes most days of the week!
Erica Layne
Yay I’m so glad you like these posts! Exercise clothes are just so darn practical as mom wear. I mean, taking care of kids is most definitely a workout!
I love YOUR style, so I vote you do a What I Wore collage for instagram! 😉
Jules
This was fun and cute- glad you shared. You look awesome!
Amber
You’re so adorable! I love all the outfits. I would love to hear more about how you keep your closet minimal. Do you have a set number of tops, bottoms, shoes? Or are you just really selective when shopping? I’m always trying to adopt a minimal lifestyle but clothing is the hardest for me!! And I need someone to dress me since I have no sense of style 😉 Such a fun post thanks for sharing!

Hey Amber! I keep thinking about your comment! Because I totally know what you mean – I really like to shop! I think one of the biggest things a girl can do to keep tabs on the size of her closet is to identify a style that suits her. If we know what colors and shapes flatter us—and what we’re drawn to—we can shop more purposefully. Sometimes it’s the experimentation (buying things that MIGHT work) that grows our closets to an overwhelming size.
Pinterest is really helpful for pinning down personal style!
If you want to talk further, feel free to email or text me! I can send you a pic of my closet! haha.

I have to get dressed nice every day and I still never look that good. You go girl!
