I’ve been wanting to share this simple smoothie for AGES, because at our house, we drink it more days than not. It’s sweet, cool, and has my favorite ingredient for kids: protein!
Does anyone else out there think protein is HUGE for mood control?
I love to send my son off to school with this in his belly, because he stays full longer. And after school? When he’s moody after a long day trying to learn what an “action word” really is (he’s convinced that for a word to be an action word, it has to have some superhero-type qualities), I’m quick to whip this up and get it in his hands. ๐
In my opinion, the biggest secret to any smoothie is a frozen banana. It makes a smoothie creamy. AND the banana taste is subtle, not overpowering, like UNfrozen banana tends to be in a smoothie. The protein in the milk, peanut butter, and oats make this smoothie really filling, and the bananas add enough sweetness that you can get by without sweetener. (I have an incurable sweet tooth, though, so I usually add a pinch of sugar. ๐
Peanut Butter Banana Oat Smoothie
2 cups milk
2-3 large frozen bananas (3 if you like a thicker consistency)
1/4 cup peanut butter
3/4 cup oats
1 Tablespoon ground flax
1-2 teaspoons sugar or other sweetener (optional)
Toss into your blender. Start on low and work up to high, blending thoroughly. Serve cold and enjoy!

We are on a smoothie craze at home for the past few months and would love to try making this! Pinning!
Erica Layne
Hey lady! We love smoothies too. Although sadly, as my kids get older they’re starting to resist my green ones more and more… ๐ This one, though, is always a win.
Thanks so much for pinning – I hope you enjoy it!
Ashleigh
Erica, it looks so good! Confession: I’ve never put oats in a smoothie before because I’m afraid it’ll be too thick and have a weird texture. Have you ever had an issue with oats in smoothies?
Erica Layne
Hey cute girl! Good question, and no, I’ve never had any issues! It may also help that I have a Vitamix, because it blends everything up superbly. ๐ And it’s less than a cup – so not overpowering. I hope you like it!

I believe that a protein and a fruit are crucial for breakfast for the children, especially on school days when they aren’t able to graze like they are at home. Pinning this! Thank you for sharing.

I can’t stop thinking about this shake/smoothie and really want to make it! Except oatmeal has been on my list for the grocery store and keep forgetting. But soon! Yum.

I just wanted to come back and tell you that my children and I just love these! I’ve even been trying to stick a few extra goodies in here and there and it’s a never fail. It’s going in my “Recipes for Regular Use” on Pinterest! Thanks again for sharing it with us!
Erica Layne
I’m so glad, Anne! It’s a sure win with my kids too, and sometimes a mom just needs something you know everyone will eat! ๐ You’re so sweet to come back and tell me, and thanks again for pinning too!

oh yummy!!! Question: How ripe are your bananas when you freeze them? It probably doesn’t make a huge difference but I’m just wondering. I can’t wait to try this. We love us a good smoothie in this house ๐
Erica Layne
Hey lady! So our bananas are usually regularly ripe or on the overripe side when I put them in the freezer. Like you said, I don’t think it matters too much. Hope you like it!
Sadie
hi there! I’m just wondering how many cups of smoothie this recipe makes? I’m super keen to try it ๐
Erica Layne
Hi Sadie! I’m not sure exactly, but I’d say 4-5 cups! It’s always enough for my kids to each have a small cupful and for me to have a bigger cup full! haha. Hope you like it!
Lorelle
How many servings does this recipe make?
